Chapter 3: Screams

Chapter 3:

After the hostess of the villa left, everyone returned to the living room. After a brief introduction, they began discussing how to care for the elderly person.

Among them, the girl with double ponytails, Yan Youping, weakly raised her small hand.

“Um… by the way, how did you all get onto the bus?”

“I was originally on the high-speed train, playing on my phone until I got sleepy, and then… fell asleep. When I woke up, I was on the bus.”

“Me too. I was working overtime at the company, and suddenly felt very tired…”

Everyone spoke up, and to their surprise, they discovered that everyone had arrived on the bus in the exact same way.

This odd coincidence made their already anxious hearts even more unsettled.

“Damn… we must be cursed…”

The man with a beard, Liu Chengfeng, swore.

Yan Youping remained silent for a moment before weakly suggesting:

“Do you think… this might be a reality show team inviting us in this way?”

“After all, I used to see on TV…”

Before she could finish, Liu Chengfeng coldly interrupted:

“Have you already forgotten about that fat guy?”

“Do TV shows kill people and skin them alive?”

Yan Youping's heart trembled, and she stared wide-eyed:

“What if… what if that was just a prop?”

“Is blood also a prop?”

“Who knows, maybe it’s chicken blood or dog blood…”

Yan Youping tried to deceive herself, but Ning Qiushui’s sudden words shattered her last line of defense:

“It’s not animal blood.”

Everyone looked at Ning Qiushui.

He seemed to have accepted everything and appeared unusually calm.

“I used to be a veterinarian, and I am particularly sensitive to smells. The blood of cats, dogs, pigs, sheep, cows, chickens, ducks, fish, and pigeons all have distinct smells compared to human blood.”

“For example, sheep blood is very gamey, while human blood has a distinct rusty smell…”

“I can tell you with certainty that the blood at that traffic light was 100% human blood.”

“And it was… the freshest human blood!”

After Ning Qiushui finished speaking, Yan Youping shuddered in fear, hugging her knees and softly sobbing:

“Stop talking…”

“Please… stop talking…”

Seeing her like this, Ning Qiushui softened his tone a little.

It’s no wonder the girl was frightened.

If a normal person from real life saw what had happened, it would likely become a psychological trauma that lingers for a long time.

Only those who frequently deal with corpses can handle it better.

After all… that scene was incredibly bloody!

“Let’s first figure out how to get through these 5 days…”

A man with an ordinary appearance, about 170 cm tall, and with a gloomy expression spoke.

His name was Xue Guize.

“We have a total of 7 people. This task is to take care of the bedridden elderly person for 5 days. How should we divide the work?”

Everyone looked at each other, and seeing that no one was speaking, Ning Qiushui said:

“How about this: the three girls will handle cooking and washing clothes, and the four of us men will take care of the elderly…”

As soon as he finished speaking, the beautiful queen with golden earrings, Wang Yuning, sarcastically said:

“Oh, so women should just cook and wash clothes for you smelly men?”

“You guys are so lazy. Hearing the hostess say that old person is bedridden, you all volunteered to take care of her… do you think we’re fools?” She said tremblingly:

“W-What danger?”

Ning Qiushui shook his head.

“Not clear yet… but since the task at the Blood Gate is to care for the elderly, the danger is likely related to her.”

“Anyway… be careful.”

Hearing Ning Qiushui’s reminder, Liu Chengfeng’s eyes shifted, and he secretly calculated with his fingers. The gloomy expression on his face cleared, and he chuckled:

“Brother, I think you make sense. I’ll stick with you.”

Ning Qiushui looked at Liu Chengfeng in surprise, shook his head, and didn’t say much more.

He first took out the vegetables from the refrigerator and then looked at the freezer.

Indeed, as the villa’s hostess said, there was a lot of meat.

The hostess had cut it into pieces and packed it into different bags.

Ning Qiushui took out a bag labeled “Beef Tenderloin,” tossed it into the pot, and set it to thaw over low heat.

As he closed the refrigerator, Ning Qiushui’s peripheral vision suddenly caught something. He pulled out a piece of meat frozen solid from the back of the fridge.

The bag containing the meat had many black, unidentified substances.

But the crushed ice covered it too much, and since all the meat bags were vacuum-sealed, it was impossible to see what the black substances were.

The bag didn’t have a meat label on it, which seemed to be the hostess’s oversight.

Ning Qiushui stared at the meat for a while. Unexpectedly, Liu Chengfeng, the bearded rough man, approached.

“Why is this meat black?”

He asked curiously.

Ning Qiushui shook his head and put the meat back in the freezer.

“Don’t know, maybe it’s spoiled from being frozen too long.”

Three people were busy in the kitchen. To Ning Qiushui’s surprise, Liu Chengfeng, who looked like a rough gangster, turned out to be an excellent cook!

He washed vegetables, cut them, and cooked with the skill of an old hand.

“Dinner’s ready!”

Liu Chengfeng brought the cooked meat and vegetables to the table and yelled up the stairs.

Then, without caring if anyone upstairs came, he directly picked up a steaming bowl of rice and began eating heartily.

Seeing Liu Chengfeng’s ravenous eating, Yan Youping couldn’t help but ask:

“Aren’t we waiting for them?”

Liu Chengfeng replied gruffly:

“Waiting for what?”

“Eat!”

With that, he continued to wolf down his food.

Tap tap tap—

Four footsteps were heard from upstairs. Wang Yuning, still on the stairs, saw Liu Chengfeng eating like a starving man and couldn’t help but mock:

“Look at you, eating like a famished ghost…”

If it were before, Liu Chengfeng would definitely have retorted fiercely.

But he seemed particularly focused on his meal, treating Wang Yuning’s ridicule as background noise.

Wang Yuning took it as him admitting defeat and began eating her meal.

At the dining table, everyone fell into silence.

Not knowing what to say.

They felt the surroundings growing darker and darker, and soon, even the beef in their bowls was hard to see.

It wasn’t until Ning Qiushui stood up and turned on the light that they finally realized… it was dark outside.

“Damn it!”

“Why is it getting dark so quickly?”

“It’s not even 7 o’clock yet!”

The man named Beidao exclaimed in surprise, his startled demeanor making everyone uncomfortable.

“What’s your name?”

Xue Guize, who already looked bad-tempered, frowned deeply.

“Didn’t the villa’s owner mention before leaving that the rainy season is coming?”

“It’s normal for it to get dark early… no need to make a fuss.”

He scolded Beidao with a somewhat agitated tone, but everyone understood why, and no one spoke up.

The atmosphere in the villa… was extremely oppressive.

“Hey, hey, hey, is this how you take care of the elderly?”

“Stuff yourselves and leave a paralyzed old person upstairs starving. Is that appropriate?”

“No one really thinks that taking care of the elderly means doing nothing, right?”

Having finished eating, Liu Chengfeng put down his chopsticks and, while picking his teeth, sarcastically addressed Wang Yuning sitting across from him.

The latter clenched her fists, her gaze becoming colder.

“Hmph, do you think everyone is as rough as you?”

“Disgusting man like a maggot.”

She disdainfully kicked her high heels, took a bowl of rice, and some leftover dishes from everyone, and stomped upstairs.

As they watched her figure disappear into the pitch-black hallway, for some reason, everyone’s hearts started to race a little…

“You guys were all upstairs just now?”

Ning Qiushui also put down his chopsticks and asked the three responsible for taking care of the paralyzed elderly.

Xue Guize replied with an “mm.”

“We searched the entire second floor. Besides the paralyzed elderly, there was no one else.”

“Our rooms are all across from the elderly’s room, in the same corridor.”

Ning Qiushui asked:

“Did you notice anything unusual?”

Xue Guize shook his head, hesitated for a moment, and replied:

“There’s a… strange smell in our room. I can’t describe what it is, but it’s unpleasant.”

“All seven rooms?”

“Yeah, all of them.”

At this moment, the girl named Ya Mo softly added:

“Also, one more thing is very strange…”

“The rooms the hostess prepared for us all have private bathrooms.”

Beidao sneered:

“What’s so strange about that? They’re rich and don’t want to run around to the toilet…”

Ning Qiushui frowned.

“No… it is indeed strange.”

“This villa is obviously only lived in by the hostess’s family. Even if the male host is at home, there are only four people. Why prepare so many bedrooms and bathrooms?”

“That… what’s strange about it? Maybe they’re very hospitable?”

“They often invite friends over for parties. Rich people like to do that, don’t they?”

Beidao’s tone was somewhat flustered.

No one responded to him.

Everyone fell into an eerie silence again.

Until…

A piercing scream from the second floor shattered the terrifying silence—

“Ah!!!”
