Chapter 4:
The sudden scream shattered the eerie silence of the villa.
Everyone immediately looked towards the second floor.
“What happened?”
“No... I don’t know!”
“Let’s go check!”
The group quickly made their way to the second floor, arriving at the source of the noise.
It was the room where the bedridden elderly person was located.
Previously, Wang Yuning, who had been carrying food, was now sitting on the floor, leaning against the wall, hugging her knees and trembling!
The steaming food... was spilled all over the floor.
“What happened?”
Ning Qiushui asked.
In front of everyone, Wang Yuning slowly extended a finger, pointing at the elderly person lying on the bed, her voice trembling:
“She... she... just now... spoke!”
Following her finger, everyone looked at the elderly person lying on the bed, motionless, staring blankly out the window.
Liu Chengfeng snorted:
“What did you think was going on... Didn’t the hostess say? Her mother is just paralyzed.”
“Being paralyzed doesn’t mean being a vegetable; why couldn’t she speak?”
“Thought you were so impressive?”
“Are you so scared by a bedridden old person?”
Liu Chengfeng seized the opportunity, his mouth firing questions like a machine gun.
However, Wang Yuning, in the corner, seemed utterly terrified, shivering and not saying a word.
Ning Qiushui glanced at the elderly person on the bed and then gestured to Liu Chengfeng to help clean up the floor. He himself pulled Wang Yuning up from the floor.
“She made the mess herself, but now expects me to help clean it up... what’s the deal...”
Liu Chengfeng grumbled, but surprisingly complied, quickly fetching a towel from the bathroom and starting to clean the floor.
The scene felt somewhat out of place.
Liu Chengfeng, who looked tough, was unexpectedly obedient to Ning Qiushui.
But no one questioned it.
After cleaning up the room, Ning Qiushui went to the bedside of the elderly person, carefully looked at her kind face, adjusted the blankets, and then left the room with everyone.
Returning to the first floor, the outside had already turned completely dark.
The pale light illuminated the hall.
But for some reason, everyone still felt they were in darkness.
The oppressive atmosphere made people uneasy.
“Alright, Wang Yuning, you can speak now... What did the elderly person say to you upstairs?”
Ning Qiushui sat down on the sofa opposite Wang Yuning and poured himself a cup of hot tea.
When the topic of the upstairs incident came up, Wang Yuning’s previously pale face became even more ashen!
She clutched the hem of her clothes tightly.
“Just now... I was feeding her, right?”
“She took a bite of beef tenderloin and... just vomited it out!”
Liu Chengfeng's eyes widened:
“Damn, she vomited?”
“Is my cooking that terrible?”
Ning Qiushui frowned.
“Liu Chengfeng, let her finish.”
Liu Chengfeng clicked his tongue, muttering a few words under his breath, and stopped talking.
Wang Yuning’s eyes revealed fear, and her expression was resistant, as if she didn’t want to recall what had just happened:
“...I thought it was too hot, so I tasted it myself, but it wasn’t hot, so I fed her a second bite, but she still vomited it out...”
“And this time, after vomiting, she... she turned her head and stared at me and said... said...”
She couldn’t bring herself to complete the sentence. Xue Guize’s brows furrowed tightly, almost pinching a mosquito to death, and he urged:
“What did she say? Hurry up and tell us!”
Ning Qiushui put on his clothes, but it wasn’t obvious that he was such a formidable man!
“Ning, didn’t expect you to be so deep!”
“With that V-line and abs, if you went to a nightclub... wouldn’t the rich ladies be fighting over you?”
Liu Chengfeng chuckled, winking at Ning Qiushui.
Ning Qiushui rolled his eyes:
“So why are you always following me?”
Liu Chengfeng spat out the toothpaste foam and, sobering up, replied seriously:
“...You’re quite meticulous, but I can’t tell you now. Wait until we get out of this Blood Gate alive, and then I’ll tell you...”
Hearing Liu Chengfeng’s response, Ning Qiushui was first taken aback and then smiled:
“Quite mysterious.”
Liu Chengfeng shook his head and changed the subject:
“By the way, do you think... that elderly person is suspicious?”
Ning Qiushui was silent for a moment.
“It’s not just the elderly person; this entire family, even the villa complex, seems problematic!”
Liu Chengfeng was stunned:
“What’s wrong with the villa complex?”
Ning Qiushui explained:
“The hostess said that this area is only inhabited by their family, but actually, many villas I passed by had signs of recent occupancy, and from the eight houses I saw alone, they were all like that. Not to mention many others I didn’t see...”
“This proves that... this area was inhabited not long ago.”
Listening to Ning Qiushui’s words, Liu Chengfeng’s back began to sweat.
If Ning Qiushui’s observation was correct, then... where did these people go?
Ning Qiushui walked to the window, his expression serious, hands in pockets, and continued:
“Moreover, a single person would generally not buy such a large garden villa. So the people living here likely have family or friends. Even if they went out to work, the house shouldn’t be completely empty...”
“But in reality, this villa complex seems to have only... us left.”
He pointed a finger.
Following his direction, Liu Chengfeng saw that all the houses in front of their window were... completely dark!
Not a single light was on!
“This...”
“How could this be?!”
His face turned extremely ugly.
Ning Qiushui slowly said:
“Something must have happened here.”
“Some... very terrifying things.”
He carefully checked the window, confirmed that it was tightly locked, and then pulled the curtains, returning to the bed.
Without the wind, the two lying in bed began to smell... a strange odor.
“What’s that smell?”
Liu Chengfeng asked.
The smell wasn’t strong but lingered persistently, like... something was rotting and molding.
The two remembered what Xue Guize had said earlier, searched around, and finally pinpointed the source of the odor.
—Above their heads.
The wooden ceiling was sticky, as if some liquid was seeping through.
The liquid was yellowish-brown and smelled very unpleasant.
“Damn...”
Liu Chengfeng felt a wave of nausea and quickly dragged the bed away a bit.
“What is that thing?”
Ning Qiushui stood below, squinting at the damp spot on the ceiling, and after a long while said:
“Liu Chengfeng, do you trust me?”
Liu Chengfeng didn’t understand what Ning Qiushui meant, but still nodded.
“Trust.”
Ning Qiushui said slowly:
“Tonight, do not fall asleep, do not turn on the lights, and no matter what you hear... ignore it.”
Liu Chengfeng’s body stiffened.
“Brother, you mean... something is going to happen tonight?”
Ning Qiushui remained silent for a long time before finally giving a barely perceptible nod.
He turned off the lights, and the room was immediately enveloped in an eerie, terrifying darkness...
Liu Chengfeng lay in bed, his mind a mess.
Though he tried to keep himself awake, as time passed, drowsiness finally overcame him...
He didn’t know how long had passed when he was suddenly awakened by a strange noise.
The source of the sound was outside the door.
It was a sound... like two sharp metal objects rubbing against each other.
Screech—
Screech—
Hearing this hair-raising noise, Liu Chengfeng immediately thought of... knives and forks!
He often cooked, and was very familiar with the sounds made by kitchen and dining utensils!
Liu Chengfeng sat up abruptly, wanting to turn on the light, but suddenly remembered Ning Qiushui’s warning, and his hand dropped again.
“Ning, are you there?”
Liu Chengfeng whispered, and immediately heard a “shush” sound beside him.
“Don’t make a sound.”
Ning Qiushui’s voice was also very low, with a barely noticeable tremor.
Clearly, he was also very nervous.
Their room’s door wasn’t fully sealed, leaving a gap, and the light from the corridor seeped through the crack under the door.
As the terrifying sound passed by their door, a bizarre shadow also flickered by...
The horrible scratching sound almost made Liu Chengfeng’s heart leap out of his throat!
The thing outside the door... was actually stopping at their doorstep!
Liu Chengfeng clenched his fists, holding his breath!
What exactly was the thing outside the door?
If it came in... what would happen?
At that moment, his mind went blank, as if he had lost the ability to think.
It felt like minutes, but it could have been just a moment, when the terrifying shadow outside the door finally moved again, heading further down the corridor...
The piercing scratching sound started again—
Screech—
Screech—
The sensation was as if an executioner was searching for a prisoner to be tortured...
It moved deeper, paused at the second door, then went to the farthest door in the corridor, where it also stopped for a while before falling completely silent...
At this moment, Ning Qiushui suddenly sat up from the bed, tiptoed to the door, and pressed his ear against the crack.
He listened for a long time.
No more sounds came from outside.
It was as if the shadow had abruptly vanished.
After listening for more than ten minutes and confirming that there was no sound outside, he returned to bed.
“Brother, what was that thing outside?”
Liu Chengfeng asked in a low voice.
Ning Qiushui shook his head:
“Don’t know, but it definitely wasn’t human.”
“It walked without making any sound.”
Hearing this, Liu Chengfeng’s forehead immediately broke out in cold sweat.
Could it be...
In this villa...
there's really something unclean here?
